Dense structure: The parchmentizing process leads to the formation of a denser structure in the paper. The acid treatment causes the fibers in the paper to tighten and bond together, creating a more tightly packed network. This denser structure reduces the paper's porosity, making it less permeable to grease and oil.
Surface treatment: Greaseproof paper often undergoes additional surface treatments to enhance its resistance to grease and oil. These coatings create a barrier that repels or resists the absorption of grease and oil, preventing them from saturating the paper.
